The Cultic Vocabulary
Where we are on the timeline
Before Christian Eucharist, Israel’s scriptures already place grain and bread inside sacrifice, priesthood, and holy space. This chapter reads that vocabulary on its own terms.
Bread’s sacred career does not begin at the Last Supper.
The textual claim is strong: Torah uses grain, flour, and bread in cultic settings. The historical claim is cautious: these uses help build bread’s religious authority before Christianity. The metabolic claim is limited: sacred use is not a dietary endorsement.
