The Curse
Where we are on the timeline
The chronological body begins before bread is holy, ordinary, or industrial. This chapter asks where bread first appears in Genesis and what that placement can responsibly bear.
Genesis does not open with bread.
The textual claim is strong: Genesis 1 gives plants and fruit before the fall, while Genesis 3 names bread after the curse. The theological claim is cautious: bread is provision in a wounded world, not evil. The metabolic claim is limited: Genesis is not a modern diet manual, but it does complicate the claim that bread is humanity’s original food.
